Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University. Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and sustained a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service.
Our Story
Theta Omicron Sigma Alumnae Chapter
TOS was chartered on January 31st, 1998 by 6 incredible women with an to serve the Central New York area. Our charter members are Sorors Aileen Cangiano, Nancy Diaz, Debra Roberts-Allred, Loree Johnson, Lynn Brice an Adah Ward-Randolph.
Over 2 decades later we have grown to over 100 members and affiliates, charted and reactivated several undergraduate chapters and continue to serve and uplift our communities.

Sisterhood
Sisterhood is the foundation of the Theta Omicron Sigma Alumnae Chapter. Rooted in unity, love, and mutual support, we foster meaningful connections that extend beyond our chapter and into the communities we serve. Through fellowship, mentorship, leadership development, and our Philo, Rhoer, and Rhosebud affiliates, we empower women and young girls to grow, lead, and thrive while strengthening the bonds of sisterhood across generations.
Scholarship
We believe education is a powerful pathway to opportunity and lasting change. Through scholarships, mentorship, youth development programs, and community partnerships, we strive to remove barriers and support academic and personal success. We remain committed to lifelong learning, celebrating achievement, and investing in the next generation of leaders and changemakers throughout Central New York.
Service
Guided by our slogan, “Greater Service, Greater Progress,” Theta Omicron Sigma is committed to uplifting the communities we serve. Through national programs, local initiatives, and meaningful partnerships, we champion education, health and wellness, youth development, and community empowerment. Across Syracuse, Utica, Cortland, Ithaca, and Binghamton, our Sorors and Affiliates work together to expand opportunities and create lasting impact.
